The ending, without giving any spoilers away, really surprised me but also moved me greatly to praise God for His great love and mercy so that when we die we need not fear death because we know where we are going to live; in heaven for eternity with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I highly recommend reading it, especially this Christmas season.

I am Catholic and believe but I don’t like books that preach more to turn people into Christians. The story is based on Marcellus Gallo, a wealthy young Roman tribune wh oversees Christ’s crucifixion.

When I began listening to this, I was not expecting to love it camasz much. I was really in the mood for a book that would take me away to another time and place, and Douglas does this very well. And every oui supporting role had a distinct and vibrant personality. The book was already well-worn when I got it, so I keep wondering, who read it so many times? It was a turning point in my life.

The wonderful writing of Douglas shows through every encounter and conversation in the book. What a powerful story! He is the son of a rich Senator of Rome and comes of age and is given a commission.
